Stream Definitions    

AWARDS CATEGORIES
1. Best Set Design
(Open to all three Streams of the Awards - judged on appropriateness and relevance of set to production - practicality and originality).
2. Best Costumes
(Open to all three Streams of the Awards - judged on appropriateness and relevance of costumes to production - practicality and originality).
3. Best Lighting Design / Operation
(Open to all three Streams of the Awards, except where lighting design and/or operation are handled by students under 18 - judges to be informed where this is the case.) Judged on appropriateness to production, practicality and originality).
4. Best Sound Design / Operation
(Open to all three Streams of the Awards, except where sound design and/or operation are handled by students under 18 - judges to be informed where this is the case.) Judged on balance of music to voice, quality of sound and handling of any problems during production.)
5. Best Technical Achievement or Effect (excluding Lighting and Sound)
(Open to all three Streams of the Awards, except where effects are handled by students under 18 - judges to be informed where this is the case. Judged on any sound or lighting or other effects utilised within the production.)
6. Best Program
(Open to all three Streams of the Awards - judged on layout, information given, creativity and originality.)
7. The Jock and Beverly Mcilwain Special Encouragement Award
(Sponsored by Jock and Beverly McIlwain)
(Open to all participants in the Awards up to the age of 18 years - awarded to a young person who has potential to develop into a professional performer.)
8. Magic Moment of Theatre
(Open to all participants in the Awards - awarded to any performer or production or company for a particular "moment" on stage - funny or memorable in some way.)
9. Best Actor in a Supporting Role in a School / Youth Play
(Open only to Schools, Colleges or Youth Stream participants - awarded to a performer NOT in the lead role - a minor principal role, for consistency in characterisation, superior acting ability.)
10. Best Actress in a Supporting Role in a School / Youth Play
(Open only to Schools, Colleges or Youth Stream participants - As for above)
11. Best Actor in a Supporting Role in a School / Youth Musical
(Open only to Schools, Colleges or Youth Stream participants - As for above.)
12. Best Actress in a Supporting Role in a School / Youth Musical
(Open only to Schools, Colleges or Youth Stream participants - As for above).
13. Best Actor in a Leading Role in a School / Youth Play
(Open only to Schools, Colleges or Youth Stream participants - awarded for consistency in characterisation and bringing something special to the role).
14. Best Actress in a Leading Role in a School / Youth Play
(Open only to Schools, Colleges or Youth Stream participants - As for above.)
15. Best Actor in a Leading Role in a School / Youth Musical
(Open only to Schools, Colleges or Youth Stream participants - awarded to an actor appearing in a musical who is recognised as having the three talents - singing / dancing / acting.)
16. Best Actress in a Leading Role in a School / Youth Musical

17. Best Production of a School / Youth Play
(Open only to Schools, Colleges or Youth Stream participants - awarded for outstanding achievement on an overall basis.
18. Best Production of a School / Youth Musical

19. Best Choreographer
(Open to all three Streams of the Awards, except where Choreography is done by student(s) under 18 - judges to be informed where this is the case. Judged on choreography in either a Play or a Musical or Musical Revue.)
20. Best Musical Director
(Open to all three Streams of the Awards, except where Musical Direction is handled by student(s) under 18 - judges to be informed where this is the case. Awarded for outstanding musical co-ordination, both of orchestra/band and cast members, vocal excellence and overall vocal quality of production.
21. Best Director of a Play
(Open to all three Streams of the Awards, except where Direction is handled by student(s) under 18 - judges to be informed where this is the case. Awarded for excellence in the overall delivery of a production, including casting, vocal delivery, originality in presenting the piece.)
22. Best Director of a Musical or Musical Revue
(Open to all three Streams of the Awards, except where Direction is handled by student(s) under 18 - judges to be informed where this is the case. Awarded for excellence in the overall delivery of a production, including casting, vocal delivery, originality in presenting the piece.)
23. Best Actor in a Supporting Role in a Community Theatre Play
(Open only to community theatre groups - awarded for a role other than the lead; a minor principal role; for commitment and consistency in characterisation.)
24. Best Actress in a Supporting Role in a Community Theatre Play
(Open only to community theatre groups - As for above.)
25. Best Actor in a Supporting Role in a Community Theatre Musical
(Open only to community theatre groups - awarded for commitment to the role, consistency in characterisation.)
26. Best Actress in a Supporting Role in a Community Theatre Musical

27. Best Actor in a Leading Role In a Community Theatre Play
(Open only to community theatre groups - awarded for outstanding onstage presence and vocal delivery.)
28. Best Actress in a Leading Role In a Community Theatre Play

29. Best Actor in a Leading Role In a Community Theatre Musical
(Open only to community theatre groups - awarded for outstanding talent in acting / singing / dancing, and onstage presence.)

31. Outstanding Community Theatre Production
(Open only to community theatre groups - awarded for a production which in the judges' opinion was the highlight of the year. Awarded to the company presenting the piece.)
32. Gold Palm Award
(Open to all three Streams - awarded for the best overall production in all categories. There will be no nominations announced for this Award, which will be presented to the winner on the night.)
33. Platinum Palm Award
(There will be no nominations announced for this Award, which will be presented on the night to the individual or company deemed to have presented / supplied / staged or appeared in a production, or given a service to the theatrical community which is considered outstanding.)
